Today was awesome! We had a great day. First we did our DOM test then after that we went to art. In art we finished up our pots. When we came back we did spelling and then we Did math in math we had a review test. After math, we went to recess. After recess we learned a song about the water cycle. And then we did Kiras VIP and after that we went to an awesome lunch. When we got back, we had silent reading and also finished Kira's VIP. And after silent reading we cleaned up our desks and the floor and we watched a weather video. After the weater video, we went to freaky, and some went to study hall. Happy Spring Break!
Hi Parents!
Can you believe we are closing out the third quarter!? This year is flying by and the growth that this class is making is amazing. Here are a few updates and answers to your questions…..
I’ve had a few calls and emails about the Tubac trip on May 11. I’m focusing on our Old Pueblo trip right now so I’m unable to guarantee anything for Tubac. There have been so many people that have shared an interest in this trip so I will need to hold a drawing to see who will accompany us. This will be done towards the end of April. There are 3 parent volunteers who have worked in our class every week, the whole year. They have worked with the students and done about every task I could ask of them. These parents will be given the choice to go to Tubac first as a thank you for all of their help. I think there will be about 6 spots left after that. If you go to Tubac you MUST dress in 1885 attire. This is a requirement for all who enter the school house. For Old Pueblo, I will be drawing the names of the chaperones on Friday morning so if you want to join us please send in your yellow form by tomorrow. We’ll also go to the Oro Valley Town Hall on April 27. I really appreciate all the help with these trips. You do make a difference!
Spirit Day is Friday and it’s UofA day! I’ve encouraged all of our class to participate. It is also Student Store on Friday. Our class won 3rd place for the One for Books challenge!!! Thank you so much for helping with this cause. Our kiddos are excited!
Parent Input forms for next year are due this Friday. AIMS testing will be the week of April 16 and I know our class will do fabulous! The quarter grades end on Friday so ALL missing work is due by then. Remember all 1s and 2s (with the exception of a test) can be redone for a higher grade. All redos are due this Friday as well. I’ve been giving the timed tests a couple of times a week for the report cards. The kiddos have improved so much in this area! At this point everyone should be a 3 or a 4. I’ve been sending home the weekly timed tests so you can see the progress. If you would like extra practice sheets for home I’d be happy to send them, just let me know.
We have started our published book! The topic is “The A-Zs of AZ”. Each kiddo has a different letter and everything they write about will start with that letter and have to do with AZ! We’re very excited about this project. Look for order forms to come home after Spring Break.
One of my FAVORITE days of the year is Oscar Night. This night will be held the last week of school and it is such a special night for the kiddos. Over the break I’m going to be working on Oscar Night. If you have taken any pictures of our class at any of the functions I would LOVE to have copies! Please email the pictures or send them in on a disc and I’ll include them in our special night. Thank you!!!

100th Birthday, Valentines, and SNOW!!!
Today was a special day with Valentine's Day and Arizona's 100th birthday but it got even better with the arrival of SNOW!!! The kiddos think that it was Arizona's birthday gift for turning 100. Our centers revolved around Arizona. We had the Mountain Man three-legged race and horse shoes, Anasazi pinch pots, and AZ activities galore! Thank you so much to our parent volunteers for organizing such a wonderful day for our class. Here are a few shots from today. Enjoy!

Updates!
Hi Parents!
We said goodbye to Michael on Friday . We had a great last day with him but it was definitely hard to say goodbye. We look forward to writing to him and interacting with him on the blog.
Yesterday we got a new student! We want to welcome Nathan Martinez to our classroom. Nathan is from the Oro Valley area and already knows some of our kiddos. We’re happy to have him as part of our classroom family!
Friday is our Project Wet Field Trip! We’ll be learning all about the water cycle and systems at the water festival. We’ll leave PS around 10:15 and return around 2:30. Normal dismissal plans will be in place. Chaperones please meet in the classroom at 10:00. We will be eating lunch a little later than normal so it is a REALLY good idea to send your kiddo with a snack on Friday. We’ll eat snack before we board the busses. All kiddos need to wear their Ronnie’s Rascals shirts. Look for a reminder slip to come home tomorrow.
Arizona’s 100th Birthday/Valentine’s Celebration is on Tuesday. Thank you to Kay Snell and Rebecca Ford for organizing this! We’ll have Arizona inspired centers and celebrate this wonderful birthday. Be sure to ask your kiddos what they know about our great state. At the end of the day we’ll enjoy a birthday cake and exchange valentines. The kiddos are free to make their own box or bag at home or do one here in class on Monday. I know some already have something in mind at home so they’re welcome to bring it in. The class list is on the back of the red sheet that went home a few weeks ago. Please note that the Valentine’s list has changed. Michael is gone and we have another Nathan.
Please check the volunteer calendar on our website for updates and changes. I’ve moved some things around and there are a lot of openings we would love to fill! The newest calendar is online and current so if you want to add or switch your times just let me know!

Our Fun Day!!
Our whole day was pretty fun exept for the fact that it was Michael's last day. First we started out by getting our stuff ready and doing the first half of spelling. After that we went to art, when we got back we finished our spelling test. Next, we had a guy from Mad Science come in and present about Electricity. He even gave us little science kits of our own! Then, we presented our cereal box commercials and went to nature shop. Next,we went to lunch and then had science. In science we raced cans using static electricity, and Michael won and became the flag man!! That was the end of our great day!! Everyone will miss Michael.

Class Updates!
Hi Parents!
We did the drawing for the chaperones for our Project Wet field trip. The parents who will be coming with us are: Stephanie Montoya, Elizabeth Flores, Lisa Hoffman, and Katie Vicino. We’ll be leaving Painted Sky between 10:00-10:30 on February 10. Look for more information to come home next week. If you are unable to join us please let me know ASAP. Thank you to everyone who volunteered. I tried to pick different ones than Kartchner so that everyone has an opportunity to join us. We will go to Old Pueblo in April and Tubac in May so if you weren’t drawn this time put your name in again!
The cereal box book reports are due this Wednesday. I’m so excited to see what they’ve created. They’ll present their commercials on Thursday and Friday.
Science Fair info can be found on the school’s website. The registration deadline is February 2nd. If they complete a project it will go toward their Science grade in class.
The Sweethearts Dance is this weekend! If you haven’t already bought your tickets you need to do so before Friday.
The 3rd grade Nature Shop is underway. Our class will preview on Thursday and have the opportunity to buy on Friday. It is your choice if you want to send your child with money to buy or not.
Thank you for your support of our 100th Birthday/Valentines celebration! We have some fun things planned. I’ve given the kiddos the choice of building a Valentines bag in class or at home. Some have expressed interest in doing it at home where they have their supplies. Either way is okay.
Please make sure your child is still practicing their multiplication and division facts. We are working with fractions right now but they are still using multiplication and division to find the lowest common denominator. They’ll continue to use these for everything that we do. If they don’t have their facts memorized everything else becomes harder. They should be at a 3 or a 4 on the report card for math fact fluency at this point. Also, we have been in our Journal 2’s for a week now. If you have ordered a Journal for your child please send it in ASAP.
Planner signatures are still not required but continue to look at your child’s planner every night for updates, notes, and projects.
We’re building electrical circuits in Science and having a ball! The Mad Scientist will come on Friday for a special Electricity presentation. We’re starting chapter 7 in S.S. This is all about Territorial Arizona and how we became a state which is fitting since the birthday is coming up!
We are finishing up our January Storyworks and getting ready to move into our next novel unit. The Storyworks are a higher level reading program that focuses on multiple genres and skills. Some of the things we’ve focused on in the last few weeks have been author’s purpose, plot and climax, vocab, persuasive essays, editing, etc. Our next novel unit will be on the book, Holes, by Luis Sachar.
We’re on Spelling unit 19 this week. The kiddos have all our spelling words from 1-19 in their binders for those that need to review.
February 8th is a half day for conferences. I only have a limited amount of time so I will only be meeting with those who I have contacted via letter.

The 100 day of school
The first thing we did was go to P.E. and played 100 days workouts. Then, for math we found fractional parts of a polygonal region and we got to play with the blocks! Then Tucson electric power showed us the danger of electricity and what do you do with it. Then we went to lunch. yummy yummy! Then we read a story about civil rights and did some sequencing.. Finally we took our Magnets test and everyone did AWESOME!!!!!! Blogging out! Roxy and Skye

Hi Parents!
The kiddos are bringing home their Arizona books today. They have their chapter 6 test tomorrow (Arizona as part of Mexico). Their math test is Friday. This chapter includes long division with and without remainders, story problems, mixed fractions, drawing and measuring angles, and plotting coordinates on a grid. We will start working out of our journal 2s on Monday. If you have already purchased one for your child they should have it in their desk. If it’s at home please send it in. Chapter 7 will include fractions, decimals, and %.
Science Fair! All information can be found on the PS website. The registration date is approaching so be sure to get everything in on time. Those that submit a project will have it go toward their Science grade in class. I can’t wait to see what they’ve come up with.
Book reports are due in 2 weeks. Please make sure your child has enough time to finish the book and work on their cereal box. They’ll present the commercial portion on Feb. 2-3.

A Fantastic Day
Today we did ROL and then after we did math and we measured triangles angles'. After we went to recess and had a lot of fun. We came back and read a poem called The Dark Emporer also did a work sheet on it. Then we went to the computer lab and did a magnet worksheet on a science website. Then we went to lunch and had some yummy food and again we had a great recess!!! We came back from recess and did some worked with some magnets for science. Fnally, we went to library and checked out some books and did study hall while we were there and when we came back.That was the end of our great and awesome day!!! Bloggers out!!
