The Home Stretch!

Hi Parents!

My flight was cancelled on Sunday so I didn’t make it back to Tucson until yesterday afternoon after being rerouted and driving an additional 2 hours. It was a long 24 hours. The only plus was that I was able to get a lot of National Board work done so I’m closer to finishing . It was great to walk in this morning and see 30 smiles waiting for me. We are in the home stretch! Can’t believe how this year is flying……it’s bittersweet . I just wanted to keep you in the loop about some upcoming things:

*We just finished our science unit on Weather. We’ll be testing tomorrow so the kiddos need to study tonight. Their study guides are in their binders.

*Report Cards will come home on Friday. They are for 3rd quarter. I keep telling the kiddos that everyone gets to start fresh this week so let’s finish strong!

*We’ll be starting our Power Point book reports tomorrow. They should have their book completely read and bring it to class so they can start to work. This report will be done at school.

*We finished our literature unit on Holes and it was amazing! They would beg to start reading EVERY day. It’s amazing what one book can do! They’ll be taking their final test tomorrow and finishing up their contracts this week. As a reward I’m letting them watch the movie, Holes on Friday. The permission slips went home today. Please sign it and return by Thursday.

*Old Pueblo field trip is next Friday, the 5th! I had an extra chaperone spot open up so if you would like to join us just let me know ASAP. It’s going to be a great day full of learning and dirt!

*We are about 200 laps from the Milers goal the kiddos set at the beginning of the year. If they don’t reach the class goal they don’t go to the movie at the end of the year. There are only 8-10 Milers left so we’re trying to kick it in to gear. We’d love to have you as a guest walker!

Have a great week!

The Latest & Greatest from the Rascals!

Hi Parents!
Can’t believe it’s March! Here are a few important things to be aware of:

We want to welcome our new student, Skyler McClelland! Skyler joined our classroom family on Wednesday and we’re so happy to have him. The boys are very excited to get another boy in the class!

Our next book report will be a Power Point report. This report will be done in class starting on Tuesday, March 26th. They must have their book read by this date so they can start the report when we go to computer lab. It must be a chapter book that is in their lexile level. We have been working on the book, Holes as a novel unit and the kiddos are loving this book! It is so much fun to hear them beg to read Holes every day. I’ve suggested they look up other books by Louis Sachar to use for their book reports since they’ve enjoyed Holes so much. We will be doing the sequel to Holes which is Small Steps as a novel unit in class later in the year.

Please remind your child to study for their root word test every Friday. They are getting harder each week. The roots have really added to our reading and language units. They are dissecting words left and right and coming up with the definitions to words in text based on the greek and latin roots!

Report cards will go home the Friday after Spring Break. This means third quarter grades will close next Friday. ALL missing or redone work is due by this date.

Thank you so much for all of the book donations! As of today we have pulled ahead to first place (pizza party)!!! Our class alone has brought in over 500 books. These books will be distributed among the Painted Sky classrooms as well as to other schools, in the district, who are in need of books. So proud of our class!

Old Pueblo is coming up! Please return your child’s permission slip by Monday. I’ll pull the names of chaperones that afternoon and notify the volunteers. We’ll also be heading to Tubac on May 9. The kiddos will be required to dress the part of an 1885 student. You might want to start to think about your child’s outfit now. I’ve attached a picture of my class last year so you have an idea of what people have done in the past. Some people make their costumes or have had great luck at good will. I have some extra outfits that have been donated by previous students if you need assistance. Parent volunteers are required to dress up as well……..but it’s TONS of fun!

Continue to check the blog for updates and to see what we’ve been doing in class. It’s hard to believe that I only have two months left with this class. When your heart hurts at the thought of giving them away you know you’ve got a special group of kids!
