The awsome field trip

At 10:00 a.m  we went to wait for the busses.
We waited about 15 minutes.
Then, we went on the bus and drove about 30 minutes.
When we got there we played a game with ropes and beads.  The next station was the water shed and it was awesome!  From there we went to the ground water station where we used pumps, pitchers, and beakers.

We had a great lunch on the grass.  We learned a lot and we had a fun time!

Oceans Field Trip on Monday!

  • Just a reminder that our Oceans field trip is this Monday. I sent home a reminder with the kiddos today. Make sure to check their backpacks. They'll need their Ronnie's Rascals shirts, money if they are purchasing something from the concessions stand, and a sack lunch. Chaperones, please be in the classroom at 8:45. Adult tickets cost $5.00 and are unfortunately not covered by tax credit money :( We're looking forward to a great day!
  • The last book order of the year went home yesterday. I encourage the kiddos to stock up on books for the summer. It is a MUST for them to read over the summer in order to continue to grow!
  • Next week we will be taking the chapter 8 Social Studies test on Wednesday. The kiddos have their study guides and are encouraged to take home their books next week. We will also have our weather test later in the week. A study guide will come home on Tuesday. Math tests were taken today and are in your child's backpack.

Have a wonderful weekend!

The Dig is tomorrow!

Just a reminder that our field trip to Old Pueblo is tomorrow. We will leave at 9:00 a.m. Please see the reminder slip that the kiddos brought home today. It has some valuable information.

***Returning registration packets are due tomorrow. Please send them in if you haven't already done so.

**Our class has been working on our own published book. It is the A to Zs of Arizona. I sent home the order forms today so your child will be able to purchase their own copy. They are due on Tuesday. This is the only opportunity you'll have to purchase the class book.

**Book orders are due this Friday.

***AIMS starts next week. Look for a letter coming home tomorrow that explains some of the destressing we'll be incorporating into our routines!

**Honor roll assembly is this Friday at 2:30. I'm very sad I won't be able to make it. My grandmother passed away this week and I'll be heading home after the field trip to attend her service.

I'm very proud of all of the kiddos and their third quarter accomplishments!

Field Trip Postponed to April 8th

Tomorrow's forecast is calling for a high of 59 and rain all day. This means that we cannot be outside digging in mud so we have had to move the field trip to next Thursday, April 8th. We're excited that we still get to go and next Thursday is supposed to be 79 and sunny. I'll send home the reminder and packing list next week.

This means that the Social Studies test will be given tomorrow. The kiddos should have been bringing home their books to study all week.

Comin' Down the Home Stretch!

I hope you all had a great and well rested Spring Break! Can you believe we're already in the fourth quarter? The kiddos are almost fifth graders! Here are a few things that are going on in room 25...........

We started chapter 10 in Math. This chapter has dealt with symmetry, reflections, and +/- numbers. We will be taking our test on Tuesday or Wednesday of next week. Chapter 11 will deal with volume and geometric shapes.

We're on Unit 26 this week for Spelling.

Territorial Arizona has been our focus in Social Studies. We will be taking the test some time next week. I've encouraged the kiddos to start taking their books home now to study. The memory master will come home Monday to help as well. Today we are taking our "Territorial Kids" pictures. These are the pictures that include any and everything that describes each student. They brought in things that reflect who they are.

A to Z books: We've been working on our rough drafts for the A to Z book on Arizona. Each student has a different letter and must come up with things specific to Arizona that start with that letter. For example, if they have the letter C, they might write about the 5C's, the Colorado River, etc. Some of the kiddos will need the weekend to gather more facts to write about. We will begin editing these on Monday so if they don't finish the rough drafts today they will need to work on them this weekend.

Weather is our new Science focus. We will then move into adaptation, mimicry, and camoflouge.

The Power Point book reports are going well. We'll be working on these for the next few weeks.

AIMS testing is the week of April 12-16. We've been working on AIMS prep this week and will continue through the next few weeks. More info will come home as it gets closer.

We head out to the dig site on Thursday for our field trip! Thank you to all who volunteered. Mary Gansheimer, Mary Robbins, Celeste Angelini, and Tee Ward will be joining us! I'll send home a remind again on Wednesday. The next field trip will be on April 26.

I'm needing some extra help with Scrapbooks. I have a bunch of packets that include the supplies and a sample page for you to reproduce. It's mainly gluing and cutting. If you would be willing to help out with this I would SO appreciate it! Please send me an email and I'll send home the kits. Thank you!

Report Cards come home today. Please send back the envelope with a signature on Monday.

Let's make the final quarter a great one!

Power Point Book Report

Last week each child picked a new book for their next book report.  If they had just started a book and weren't too far along then they could stick with it.  We've been to the library twice in one week so the students have had two opportunities to select a book.  It must be a chapter book that is in their level.  If they picked a book from home then they need to bring the book in so I can okay it.

The books must be finished by Monday, March 22.  This is the Monday after Spring Break.  We will begin the book reports on this day.  The students will NOT be able to start their book report unless they have finished their book.

The book report will be in a Power Point Presentation and most of it will be done in class.  If there are certain pictures or sounds they would like to include from home, that would be great!  Just save the images on a disc, a flash drive, or email them to me.  Those students that finish their books by Monday, March 8 will have the opportunity to start their presentation/book report early.  Again, the books are not required to be completed until the 22nd.

A criteria sheet for this book report will come home tomorrow.

Farewell to February!

Can you believe that February and the third quarter are all most over?  This year has flown by!  I wanted to catch you up on some of the things the Rascals have been and are working on.............

Spelling:  Because of the shortened week we are focusing on reviewing our spelling words.  The students are responsible for 115 words at this point.  All of the words we've had to date can be found in your child's binder under the spelling tab.  We'll pick up with Unit 24 next Monday.

Math:  We're working away on chapter 9.  Chapter 9 includes working with fractions, decimals, and percents.  It is so important that your child still work on their multiplication and division facts if they're still having trouble.  These MUST be memorized.  We use both skills in every lesson we complete.

Reading:  The Cereal Box Book Reports were awesome!  I enjoyed learning about each book and watching the commercials.  Thank you for helping your child to shine!  Our next book report will be completed at school and we'll be working on a Power Point presentation model for each report.  The kiddos will need to pick a book to start reading this week.  The book will need to be completed in the next few weeks to allow us time to create the Power Points.  Each reading group is working on skills that are taylored to that group.  To see your child's reading grade you will need to log on to their reading teacher's website.

Science:  We worked with Magnets and Electricity in January and February.  The kiddos did a fantastic job and knew the concepts in and out.  We were even fortunate enough to bring Mad Science to our class to teach us about Electricity!

Social Studies:  The last two weeks we worked on chapter 5 in our Social Studies book.  This chapter was about the Spanish Explorers and Missionaries in Arizona.  We took this test on Friday and the kiddos did awesome.  They have a love for history and it shows in each lesson!  Today we started chapter 6.  This chapter will focus on Arizona as part of Mexico.

Language:  We are continuing to work on homophones, the parts of speech, tenses, and the 4 types of sentences.

Reading and Homework Logs:  Some of the kiddos haven't been turning in their logs on Friday.  The reading portion is calculated into their reading grade and can bring the grade up or down.  Everyday the students must complete the homework and notes section of the log.  This is where I mark upcoming tests and the kiddos highlight the info.  We have been doing this all year but I'm getting some phone calls from parents that they weren't aware of upcoming tests.  Tests are ALWAYS on the assignment board and usually are accompanied by a study guide well in advance.  It's hard to give an exact date of when a test will be because it all depends on how well the kiddos get through the lessons.  Some days we have to do a little reteaching and other days we can combine two lessons into one.  When we're nearing the end of a chapter I then put the test date on the assignment board.  The kiddos always have a minimum of 3 days to study, usually more.  It is the student's responsiblity to get this information home.  When I'm able I usually put this information on the blog too.

Please remember that if your child recieves an F or a 1 on any paper that is not a test they can redo it and I'll average the scores.  This helps their grades a great deal and helps to ensure that they're getting the concepts.  Be sure to check your child's grades online on a regular basis.  The kiddos should be checking these as well.

Volunteer Calendar:  I sent home the March and April volunteer calendars to be filled out.  I only recieved two back.  I'll update the volunteer calendar on our website today and that will show what days are open if you would like to be added.  Wednesdays are the only taken day as of now.  We love our volunteers and would love for you to come in but we understand if you're too busy as well.  I'm looking for someone who would be willing to volunteer from home.  I need someone who is comfortable typing.  I would send home the some sheets and you would type up a form for each kiddo.  If this is something you would like to do then we would love you forever!  Just let me know.

Field Trips:  We have two upcoming field trips!  On April 1 we will be venturing to Old Pueblo Archaelogy Center and on April 26 we will be attending Disney's Oceans.  The dig will go with our study of Arizona and the Southwest and Oceans will go with our studies of adaptation and the water cycle.  It's looking like we have enough tax credit money to cover both trips.  Look for itineraries and forms to come home in the future.

Remember, Story Book Parade is this Wednesday.  The kiddos come to school dressed as their favorite book character.  They need to bring the book as well.  I encourage everyone to participate.  It will be a fun day!

Rodeo Break is this Thursday and Friday.  That leaves us with two weeks left in the third quarter when we return.  Thank you for your continued support.  It makes a difference in your childn't education!

The Joys of January!

The kiddos have had two weeks to get back into the swing of things and they're doing very well!  I wanted to give you a heads up of what we're learning and where it is taking us.........

First, we want to welcome Andrew Cameron to our class.  He just moved here from Texas and I know he'll be a great addition to our class!  Honor Roll Assembly wass today at 2:30.  There were 13 kiddos that made the A and B honor rolls.  Hats off to them!  Remember to check the calendars on the website and the blog.  I update them daily with new information.  Please be sure to check your child's homework and reading logs on a daily basis.  When there is important info that I want them to share with you they know to highlight that information.  They fill this out as soon as they enter the classroom in the morning.  Remember, students are allowed to redo work that was given an F.  The new grade will be an average of the first attempt and the redo.  Tests can not be done over.

Spelling:  We are finishing Unit 18 today and it looks like we will finish all the units before the end of the school year.  The kiddos are becoming phenomenal spellers.  Spelling homework is the same every week but with new words.  At this point the kiddos are responsible for 90 words.  Thursdays are still dictation test days and Fridays are still the cloze test days.

Math:  We are working on Chapter 7-Fractions.  The kiddos are doing well with fractions and seem to be enjoying this concept.  If you are having trouble helping your child on their homework remember the answer keys that were sent home at the beginning of the year (it's a thick packet that was given to every parent) are a big help.  These are to help you see the concepts that are being taught in class so they are getting the reinforcement with homework.  Depending on how the rest of the chapter goes, we will probably test the week of 25th.  This will be in their homework log ahead of time and like always they will have at least two days to review.

Reading:  If your child is not in my reading group you can go to their reading teacher's website to see their grades.  After the new MAP scores and in class assessment we will be moving a few kiddos around to best accomodate their reading ability.  If your child moves to another group you will be notified next week and they will start with their new group on February 1.
Book Reports:  The Cereal Box Reports are underway!  I am loving hearing about all the ideas they have for their boxes.  The packet explaining this book report came home on January 7.  I included templates for them to use but they are not required to.  If they would like to type up their own templates and use pictures and the computer that is great as long as all of the information is included.  This book report is due on February 3.  Late projects will NOT be accepted since they have had 4 weeks to work on this.  If they fail to turn it in their grade will suffer significantly.  They will present their "commercial" on February 4 or 5.  I can't wait to see their final projects!

Science:  We have been working with magnets!  This week we did tests with the magnets and worked to understand that magnets attract and repel.  We'll finish magnets next week and start electricity the following.  Because of a tax credit donation we are going to bring Mad Science to our class on January 29.  The Mad Scientist will be conducting a workshop on Electricity!  The Science Fair will be held on January 26 and 27.  Packets are due on the 22nd.

Social Studies:  We will pick up with Spanish Explorers in Arizona and Territorial Arizona in February.  We are working hard to make the Tubac field trip happen.  Today was the day that the state decided if they will shut the park down so we should know sometime next week.  Because of tax credit donations we are hoping to take a trip in the spring to the Southwest Archeological Dig site.

Grammar:  We're continuing to work on parts of speech, the four types of sentences, and the 6 traits of writing.

If you signed up to help put together the fourth grade math binders.......thank you!  We will be working on them Tuesday-Friday of next week from 9:00-10:30 if you would like to join us.  Also, if you are interested in volunteering just send me an email and I'll add you to the calendar.  You can access the volunteer calendar on our website to see available dates and times.  Third quarter grades are being added on a daily basis.  Be sure to log on and see how your child is doing.

The kiddos have turned a corner behavior and academic wise and I know the third quarter is going to be a great one!  If you have any questions please feel free to contact me, email is the fastest way.

Enjoy the three day weekend,
Mrs. Ronnie

Welcome Back!

Let's get ready for the third quarter!

  • Grades will start over and report cards come home on Friday (for the second quarter).
  • Homework, reading and homework logs, and weekly spelling words will begin just like normal.
  • We'll start chapter 7 in Math and magnets and electricity in Science.
  • Be sure to check the volunteer calendar for your volunteer dates.  I did not assign them for January and February so if you don't see your name that means that I never received the dates you requested.  If you would like to be added just send me an email and I'll get you on the schedule!

I'll see you on Monday ready to start the new year together!
